“Recapturing a Decade of Fighting for Refugee Rights in Israel”

Friday, April 5th from 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. in WCC 3016

This lunch talk will feature a discussion with Dr. Ayelet Oz, Executive Director of the Hotline for Refugees and Migrants, who will be speaking on the struggle for the rights of refugees in Israel. The Hotline for Refugees and Migrants – Israel is Israel’s leading organization protecting the rights of refugees, migrant workers, and victims of human trafficking.

“American Islamophobia”

Tuesday, April 9th from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. in WCC 1010

Come take part in a conversation with Professor Khaled Beydoun, who will be speaking about his recent book American Islamophobia, which explores the rise and roots of fear surrounding Muslims in the United States. A critical race theorist and civil rights lawyer, Professor Beydoun incorporates an intersectional approach to his analysis, examining the dynamics of law, policy, and official state rhetoric that contribute to fueling a resurgence of Islamophobia in the United States.

“Trapped by a Narrative: the Criminalization of Immigrant Youth” 

Wednesday, April 17th from 12 pm. – 1 p.m. in Hauser 104

For this lunch talk, we will be joined by Shannon Al-Wakeel, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Muslim Justice League, and Andres Del Castillo, Lead Organizer with City Life/Vida Urbana, for a discussion about the surveillance and criminalization of non-citizen youth in Boston. The panel will focus on the immigration consequences and civil rights implications of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) and gang database programs in the Greater Boston area. Phil Torrey, Supervisor of the Harvard Crimmigration Clinic and Managing Attorney at HIRC, will moderate.

“The Venezuelan Crisis: Evolution, Ramifications, and Solutions”

Thursday, April 18th from 12 pm. – 1 p.m. in Pound Hall 101

Have questions about the political situation in Venezuela? Join David Smolansky and Diego Scharifker for a discussion to help demystify the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. The panel will explore the systematic human rights abuses and the impact of the forced migration in the region. The event will by moderated by HIRC’s Program Administrator, Jordana Arias.
