Statement on the Trump administration’s memo on DACA

Yesterday, the Trump administration released a memo regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In the memo, Secretary Chad Wolf outlined the administration’s intention to deny all new DACA applications and advanced parole requests, and to grant DACA renewals for only a one-year period. We at the Harvard Immigration and Refugee Clinical Program are outraged by this latest attack on the DACAmented and undocumented community. This memo flies in the face of the recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to fully reinstate the DACA program and, in so doing, cruelly undermines critical protections to hundreds of thousands of people amid the current global pandemic and nationwide protests in response to egregious police brutality and systemic racism.

Our program is committed to standing alongside DACA recipients in the fight to create a permanent path to citizenship and we will continue to represent DACAmented and undocumented members of the community in their efforts to seek immigration protection. If you are a Harvard student or staff who currently has DACA or is interested in determining whether you qualify for DACA, please contact the Harvard Representation Initiative to schedule a free legal consultation by calling 617-495-6648 or emailing hri@law.harvard.edu.
