In light of the horrific events that occurred in Atlanta against the Asian community, we want to acknowledge the discrimination and racism that exist within our country, cities, and neighborhoods. This event will feature speakers Maria Dolorico (Philipino Therapist, Mental Health Advocate, & former Campaign Manager for Boston City Council Julia Mejia), Bethany Li (Director, Asian Unit at GBLS), and Helena Barbano (Political Director at New American Leaders & Social Justice Activist).

Speaker bios:

Maria Dolorico, M. Ed., BCC, PMH-CA  lives in Boston, MA with her husband and three children. She is a mental health clinician and coach in private practice, specializing in reproductive and perinatal mental health with an interest in immigrant and multicultural families. Central to any introduction of Maria is that she is the daughter of Philippine immigrants. The first and only member of her family born in the USA,  she will never tell you who she is without telling you who and where she comes from.

Helena Berbano is a 2nd generation Filipina American, trainer, facilitator and organizer with nearly a decade of experience in civic engagement, advocacy, and political campaigns. She currently serves as National Political Director for New American Leaders, the only organization dedicated to training and supporting New Americans to run for office in the United States. In her career, she has managed voter engagement programs across the United States, with a particular focus on Asian American Pacific Islanders and other disenfranchised populations. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Bethany Li is a senior attorney leading the Asian Outreach Unit at Greater Boston Legal Services. The Asian Outreach Unit uses a community lawyering model to serve the legal needs of Asian Americans by strengthening the impact of community organizing through direct legal services, advocacy and legislative campaigns, and impact litigation.
