HRI welcomes new paralegal

Karina, a woman with long dark hair, smiles at the camera.

As we start a new year, we are excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Karina Buruca. Karina is the paralegal for the Harvard Representation Initiative, which offers free immigration and social work services to Harvard community members.

Karina previously worked as a paralegal at the Federal Defenders of New York where she worked on serious federal felony matters. She is a first-generation college graduate from Lesley University with a bachelors in Human Services and Political Science. In college she spent most of her time at the Philips Brooks House as a student officer, working on summer and afterschool programing for youth in the greater Boston area. She is now a part-time student at Lesley University getting her Masters in Social Work. Her family immigrated to the United States after the civil war in El Salvador where her passion and interest began for criminal and immigration law. When she is not working, she loves running and playing sports with friends.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Karina!
