How you can help

The past few weeks have been troubling. From family separations at the border to the travel ban, immigrant communities across the country face increasingly difficult circumstances. HIRC is committed to advocating for the rights of asylum-seekers, refugees, and all others seeking safety in the U.S. We encourage our students, alumni, and the broader community to take action to support immigrant communities in whatever capacity they can. Here are some ways to get involved:

Call Your Representative 

In May, the Massachusetts Senate included 4 basic protections in its version of the FY2019 budget which would stop law enforcement from being co-opted by ICE and protect civil rights and due process. The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition is calling on local legislators to pass these important protections. Email and call your representative today! 

Volunteer

In Massachusetts: Do you speak a language other than English? HIRC is in need of interpreters to help with client meetings and to translate documents. Please consider signing up in our interpreter database.

At the border: There are a number of organizations that are looking for volunteers to help them provide pro-bono legal services to detained immigrants. There are opportunities with the following organizations:
